Oslo day 1, 2006-03-04
Travel- and sightseeing

It all started at 8.30 AM back home in Gothenburg
with a suitcase, camera and a thermos of coffee.

Big dishes for telecommunication in Tanum (Sweden) halfway to Oslo.

For the first time Elaine sets foot on Norwegian ground.

It was very cold so the first thing we did in Oslo
was to buy a new warm cap for Elaine.

This is Oslo's famous main street Karl Johan
leading up to the Royal Castle

Also famous is Cafe Grand at Grand Hotel where you must
have a hot coffee or chocolat when it is cold outside.

The statue of a King on horse in front of the Royal Norwegian Castle
is the Swedish King Karl Johan because Norway was in union with
Sweden until 1905 with the Swedish King as Head of State.

In front of the castle

Elaine on a safe spot with armed guards

The piles of snow was very high

Change of guards

A short movie of Change of guards here (10Mb, 33s)

Why do nordic countries have a lion as a symbol
Shouldn't it be an elk or a deer or perhaps a wolf
We are not in Africa but this lion on the National
Theater was obviously imported from there.

We ended the day on a Chinese restaurant.
Good but it is not for nothing Oslo recently was
nominated the most expensive capital in the world
